So... this is it. I've hardly been touching this account and when I do it's only to comment every now and then. I haven't gotten back into the groove of writing after that whole bout with depression and writing was the whole reason I put up this blog in the first place. I've also been getting more active on my RL account, [info]erilyn525600. Taking all that into consideration... I'll be putting this blog on a more or less permanent hiatus. I'll probably keep it to read my friends page every now and then but that's it. Anyone who wants to can still contact me here. I'll miss Mara but I haven't really been here here in quite a while now so it just makes sense to focus my postings over on my Erilyn blog. Feel free to call me Mara over there, I use both names interchangeably anyway. Although since I'm looking into getting a Dreamwidth account once it opens, I'm not sure how long I'll stay over there either. So... this is it. So long and thanks for all the fish!

P.S. Just a warning, I'm more free saying what I think over on the Erilyn blog so if I say something totally incredibly stupid, don't mind me. My brain just wasn't connected to my fingers at the time.

I've been pretty dormant when it comes to fandom lately. I've been occasionally reading and commenting but aside from that, nothing much. I've mostly been involved in school (I'm this close to my internship) and I've been getting more active when it comes to my Real Life (tm) LJ.

I've gotten myself glued to the Strachey series so been following that. I also have a new OTP (if you can have multiple OTP's?), Harry/Scorpius. I don't know, something about that pairing just strikes my fancy, more than all the other cross-gen stuff I've read. What I'm looking for is for someone to write an MPreg involving that pairing. I read a short fic but it didn't do the whole nine months. It's amusing to imagine Draco's and the kids' reactions. My free time is also taken up by trying to get RL friends interested in Queer as Folk. It's just fun to have someone to squee with offline.

Oh and, one of the things I'm looking forward to is this:

I'm on the mailing lists and it sounds pretty good so far. I used to love LJ but I've been less than enamored of it lately. I'm not all that eager to jump ship but exploring other possibilities sounds like a good idea.

I've been out of touch lately because school started (different school schedule where I live) and all our teachers are working us like crazy even if the sem has just started. I'd been on leave for a couple of months (had depression, long story) so it's been kinda tough to get back into the swing of things. I've got a backlog of fics and stuff on my friends page like woah, and I've got some stuff I've been planning to read for a while that I'm just getting around to. Here's the ones that were left after my initial blitz:

Queer as Folk:
The Left Wing Is Mine by [info]starlightbj
Timing by [info]foreverfolked
Medium Security by [info]gaedhal
Cross Reference by [info]laciudad

Harry Potter:
Only to Rise Higher by [info]swtalmnd
In the Beginning there was Darkness by Meredyth
Renaissance by [info]lyonsown
Conspiracy of Silence by ??

Aside from that, I'm still wading through Torchwood and Doctor Who fics and desperately wishing next year were here. I've also given in and started reading QAF mpreg after going through a couple of H/D mpregs. I just need to turn off the part of me that does a periodic reality check and everything's good.

I just watched Wedding Wars. It is hilarious and very appropriate given what's been going on lately. My favorite part is when after Shel is interviewed on TV, gay people everywhere start going on strike. How I wish that would happen in real life! It's like that fantasy where everyone gay suddenly turns blue.

A comic take on the issue of gay marriage, "Wedding Wars" asks the question: What would happen if every gay person in America suddenly went on strike? An argument between two brothers inadvertently triggers the strike, and it's up to the siblings to solve their differences before the entire country is shut down in this outrageous comedy that explores gay rights, equal treatment under the law, and what it means to be a brother.

The Kid - Dan Savage

In The Kid, Savage tells a no-holds-barred, high-energy story of an ordinary American couple who wants to have a baby. Except that in this case the couple happens to be Dan and his boyfriend. That fact, in the face of a society enormously uneasy with gay adoption, makes for an edgy, entertaining, and illuminating read. When Dan and his boyfriend are finally presented with an infant badly in need of parenting, they find themselves caught up in a drama that extends well beyond the confines of their immediate world. A story about confronting homophobia, falling in love, getting older, and getting a little bit smarter, The Kid is a book about the very human desire to have a family.

There's a pic of Randy Harrison with his boyfriend Simon Dumenco at AfterElton. Cool! I haven't seen them together before.

so close...

ETA: Millions of votes left to be counted, lawsuits in the waiting, and possibly heading back to the Supreme Court. I don't feel as euphoric as I did after Obama's win but at least I'm not as depressed anymore.

I'm not an American. I'm from the Philippines, nearly halfway around the world. And yet I was glued to the TV all day biting my nails, crossing my fingers, and cheering for the president elect of a country that isn't even mine. I even rushed through enrollment which on hindsight I probably shouldn't have. Why? Because! Obama is the kind of leader you usually only get to read about! Now he's here, and he won!

Someday people will look back and look to him as a role model of what a leader should be like. He is so freaking inspiring. He even makes me, a long time cynic, want to get involved in local politics. God knows I wish the politicians here would take a page from his book.

Now to chew off the rest of my fingernails while waiting for the Prop 8, etc. results... (ETA: Florida and Arizona results are pretty much sure so now I've been obsessively refreshing on Prop 8 and it's not looking good. I'm not sure whether to continue celebrating Obama's win or keep holding my breath for the results on Prop 8.)
